This presentation will discuss the liver duplex examination, including a description of normal and abnormal appearance of the liver both anatomically and in terms of Doppler flow patterns. Normal and abnormal portal venous, arterial, and venous waveform patterns will be discussed. The etiology, effects, and appearance of portal hypertension and venous thrombosis will be covered. Finally, the transjugular portosystemic shunt (TIPS) will be discussed as a viable treatment option for liver disease. The presentation will also provide protocols for the liver duplex and TIPS examinations.
