Traumatic stress can cause physical effects on the brain, which alter its function. These alterations produce signs and symptoms that can lead to a trauma response or trauma-related disorder such as post-traumatic stress disorder. Neuroimaging, using magnetic resonance and positron emission tomography, has been useful in identifying the physical effects caused by traumatic stress to provide a better understanding of trauma-related disorders, which aids in choosing the most appropriate treatment.
This quiz is the companion to the short report, "Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Its Effects on the Brain", which appears in the July/Aug 2022 Radiologic Technology journal.
This activity may be available in multiple formats or from different sponsors. ARRT regulations state that an individual may not repeat a self-learning activity for credit if it was reported in the same biennium.
