As the utilization of magnetic resonance imaging grows worldwide, so do the complexities and challenges related to MRI safety. Several risk factors are associated with MRI, which provide ongoing challenges for busy MR personnel. This introductory lecture on MRI safety examines the potential hazards within the MRI environment and provides prevention methods. Additionally, we will review ACR-recommended safety zones and personnel designations. The overall goal of this lecture is to help MRI technologists keep themselves and their patients safe, and promote a culture of safety in the MR environment.
