Adaptive radiation therapy is the process of reevaluating
and modifying a patient’s treatment plan based on new information gathered
during each treatment fraction. Adaptive radiation therapy potentially can
reduce planned treatment margins and patient-setup errors, leading to more
accurate dose distribution, reduced adverse effects, and improved outcomes.
Several forms of adaptive radiation therapy exist, each with their own purpose
and benefits: anatomy adapted, response adapted, offline, and online. This
article discusses adaptive radiation therapy, examines clinical benefits, and
analyzes potential shortcomings and challenges..
This quiz is the companion to the short report, "Adaptive Radiation Therapy: A Dynamic Approach to a Dynamic Challenge", which appears in the 2022 Fall Radiation Therapist journal.
