Mammographic image quality is of utmost importance in the detection of breast disease. Recent revisions to federal standards have placed greater emphasis on the technologist’s role in achieving and maintaining mammographic image quality. The overall quality of mammography requires a team effort from interpreting physicians and mammographers to achieve the best patient outcomes. In this presentation, we will review the standards and criteria for evaluation of image quality, assess mammographic images to recognize opportunities for improvement, and discuss best practice for receiving and providing feedback regarding the quality of mammographic images.
