The heart possesses a conduction system that facilitates heart rate, stroke volume, and cardiac output. Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), were developed for rhythm management. The aftercare associated with these devices includes routine checkups at a pacemaker and ICD clinic. Technologists who understand CIEDs and the required aftercare will be better equipped to address patient concerns.
This quiz is the companion to the column “Follow-up Care for Patients With Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices” which appears in the May/June 2023 Radiologic Technologist journal.
