Learning the theory and practice of coronary physiology testing by understanding the principles and mathematics underpinning several associated flow reserve indices is important for cardiac interventional technologists. Fractional flow reserve, instantaneous wave-free ratio, resting full-cycle ratio, and diastolic pressure ratio exemplify the physiology-based, pressure-derived flow reserve techniques used to distinguish indeterminant lesions. Coronary physiology testing based on any of these methods improves the care received at level 2- and 3-designated cardiac catheterization laboratories.
