Cardiac catheterization is a widely used modality in the
diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD) and other heart
diseases and abnormalities. Cardiac catheterization is used for angiography and
to collect hemodynamic data, which aid in the diagnosis of CAD and the
inclusion of abnormalities of the aortic, pulmonary, and peripheral vessels.
Cardiac catheterization use is increasing, and radiologic technologists can
benefit by learning about their role in the cardiac catheterization laboratory
and procedures performed there, such as coronary artery bypass graft surgery
and percutaneous coronary intervention.
This quiz is the companion to the column “The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory ” which appears in the May/June 2023 Radiologic Technologist journal.
