MR safety
is a paramount concern to all MR Technologists, who are tasked with ensuring
patient safety in the imaging environment. However, patient safety in MR can
rely on unreliable factors: patient screenings are dependent on a patient’s
health literacy and effective communication from MR personnel. New equipment,
implanted devices, and even clothing styles have safety implications in MR.
Determining what is safe for the MRI environment is an ongoing effort, and
these safety determinations are aided by the MR safety labels of Safe,
Conditional, and Unsafe. This presentation explores the history of MR safety
labels and how they are assigned, as well as additional factors technologists
should consider prior to imaging a patient.
