The integration of informatics and imaging significantly affects how medical imaging professionals care for patients. This presentation provides an overview of imaging informatics, with a focus on how it contributes to patient-centered care across the various imaging modalities. Imaging informatics topics such as information systems (HIS/RIS/EMR/EHR), digital image displays, archives, PACS/MIMPS, security and networking will be discussed. The similarities and differences of imaging informatics across modalities will be highlighted, as they are key to understanding the significance of how patient care is affected and continues to evolve alongside these capabilities.
