Wilms tumor, a malignant tumor arising from the renal parenchyma, is the most common malignant pediatric renal mass and the fourth most common pediatric cancer. Wilms tumor is presumed to be caused by genetic alterations associated with embryonic genitourinary tract development. Imaging examinations can be ordered for further assessment of the mass and to determine site of origin and whether the mass has spread. The Wilms tumor staging system corresponds with imaging features of Wilms tumor. Primary imaging used to assess the upper urinary system for Wilms tumor includes sonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Current treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
