A series of congenital disorders related to adverse development of the müllerian ducts are strongly correlated with fertility issues in the reproductive years. The most common congenital anomaly of the müllerian ducts is septate uterus, accounting for approximately 45% of all müllerian duct anomalies (MDAs); bicornuate uterus is the second most common at approximately 25% prevalence. Imaging examinations that can assess the pelvis for presence of an MDA includes pelvic sonography, hysterosalpingography, and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. MR imaging is considered the gold standard for differentiation among similar-appearing MDAs with comparable clinical symptoms.
