Ventricular tachycardia is a type of cardiac arrhythmia that is determined by an abnormally fast heart rate. The fast rhythm typically is caused by cardiac injury-related scar tissue that changes the electrical activity in the heart. In cases in which catheter ablation has failed, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) used to ablate the target provides a noninvasive and effective treatment technique that can decrease the burden of ventricular tachycardia effects. Radiation therapists should be aware of the treatment-planning process in ventricular tachycardia SBRT as this treatment modality might become more widely used.
