Ankle fractures are common among all populations and most often are caused by simple falls and athletic injuries. A thorough patient evaluation that includes the mechanism of injury is key to a proper diagnosis and effective treatment.
Radiographer Anne Scott, B.S.R.S., R.T.(R), examines the use of radiography and other imaging modalities to diagnose ankle injuries, as well as the classification systems used to describe injury patterns. The article also discusses treatment, rehabilitation techniques and possible complications of ankle fractures.
