The number of fluoroscopy-guided procedures performed by interventional radiologists and surgeons is increasing because of the increasing number of minimally invasive procedures using fluoroscopy. Although fluoroscopy-guided procedures have advantages, the consequences of prolonged radiation exposure are a considerable disadvantage. Because the surgeon, staff, and patient are exposed to substantial levels of radiation during these procedures, precise positioning of instrumentation using intraoperative imaging is imperative.
