Although
relatively common, Paget disease of the bone is often underdiagnosed and
undertreated. The disease process involves an abnormally high rate of bone
resorption at specific sites, which triggers a misshapen bone remodeling
pattern. Radiologic imaging, especially radiography and bone scans, plays a key
role in helping to diagnose and monitor Paget disease. This article will
discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, common symptoms, and treatment of Paget
disease, as well as the role of imaging in diagnosing the disease.
