Advanced protocols to assess the patency of coronary arteries via computed tomography (CT) improve decision-making concerning cardiac catheterization deferrals in the contemporary era. Results supported using coronary CT angiography (CCTA) to clarify diagnoses of chest pain secondary to coronary artery disease (CAD). A functional, noninvasive examination, such as CCTA-derived fractional flow reserve, could be used if uncertainty exists about myocardial ischemia as the precipitating factor for chest pain in patients with known CAD.
