Sleeping disorders have the potential to severely affect a patient’s health and quality of life. Obstructive sleep apnea involves the blockage of the throat during sleep, leading to fragmented sleep and daytime sleepiness. The disorder is associated with other risks, including cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and obesity. Imaging has an important role in the evaluation of obstructive sleep apnea, and it is important for technologists to understand this role. This article will discuss the use of cephalometric radiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging in the evaluation of this disorder. Treatments, including lifestyle changes and surgery, will also be discussed.
