In 2024, approximately 10,540 new cases of anal cancer were reported. Surgeries such as abdominoperineal resection were a common treatment approach for anal cancer that often resulted in a lower quality of life. However, because of advances in modern medicine, patients with anal cancer now have more treatment options, such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy and chemotherapy, and the emphasis is placed on preserving quality of life. To achieve the best treatment outcome, radiologic technologists should have a comprehensive understanding of the disease, including epidemiology and pathology, diagnosis, medical imaging, and treatment.
