Populations with the highest incidence of keloids include black, Asian, and Hispanic people. Although keloids can be treated, recurrence rates can be greater than 45%. This article briefly describes keloids and various methods of treatment. The article also includes a case summary demonstrating that radiation therapy can have a positive effect on keloid recurrence when compared to surgical excision alone.
