Magnetic resonance’s superior ability to display soft tissue makes it an effective imaging tool to study brain morphology of the amygdala and hippocampus. This article reviews literature about using structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging to compare the brain anatomy of patients with PTSD to the brains of people who do not have PTSD.
