As CT technology evolves, so must its scanning protocols. In order to continuously improve the safety and diagnostic value of CT exams, various strategies are researched and implemented. Intravenous contrast enhancement (IVCE) is an important tool employed in numerous protocols to improve the sensitivity and specificity of CT exams. This lecture defines terminology related to IVCE, addresses the safe and effective administration of IVCE, and describes how various timing strategies of IVCE affect the diagnostic viability in CT exams.
