In spite of the many clinical applications of CT and MR, chest radiography still represents the largest portion of radiographic images taken on a regular basis. Its diagnostic yield relative to cost, convenience, and dose is still unmatched. However, evaluating chest x-rays requires an understanding of a basic tenet of chest radiography: the Silhouette Sign. In this session, we will look at the Silhouette Sign concept from a technologist’s perspective, and in doing so, we will discuss the important role the radiographer plays in its visualization.
