This presentation begins with a description of the new virtual grid software from Fuji and others, how it works, and pitfalls to beware of when teaching others how to use it. The breadth of implications for digital exposure latitude are explored. Eight broad categories of noise are described, as well as why digital processing must deal with general noise rather than just fog. The remarkable ability of frequency processing to clean up specific fog patterns is explained. Finally, the benefits of reducing grid use or grid ratio is evaluated in terms of image quality, positioning flexibility, patient dose, and best practices.
