In the ever-changing world of digital imaging, much of the “art” of what we do feels lost. The technical side of the equipment is not always a technologist’s favorite subject, but it is imperative to understanding the limitations of our modality. The increased speed and efficiency of digital receptors has changed the way we acquire diagnostic images; while their sensitivity and post processing abilities have created a false sense of security. Knowing the way that our digital detectors are constructed and respond to the techniques we use is the key to creating diagnostically effective images and maximizing our critical thinking skills in patient care.
