This presentation will discuss how mammography and ultrasound work together in order to diagnose patients with cancers and other pathologies. Mammography and ultrasound are used in various ways to view different types of pathologies and lesions. Sometimes, one modality can detect a lesion better than the other. The entire progression of a diagnostic work-up will be discussed, starting with a diagnostic exam and continuing with any additional exams as determined by the radiologist. The various pathologies and final outcomes will also be covered. Mammography and ultrasound play a critical role in the diagnosis of both benign and malignant pathologies. MRI can also play a role in breast imaging when needed, especially after a malignant breast cancer diagnosis. These modalities work together in order to get the most accurate diagnosis and provide the patient with the best care.
