This article describes how molecular imaging with fluorine-18 sodium fluoride (NaF)-PET and technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) is used to measure bone turnover. In addition, the article identifies how quantification studies use standardized uptake values to provide a regional analysis of different skeletal sites and the additional studies necessary to assess regional effects of new drugs on bone formation.
