This article describes how the uptake of fluorine-18–fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) by tumors helps provide anatomic and volumetric data about the primary tumor and regional disease on PET imaging. The use of FDG-PET/CT as a baseline assessment is discussed, along with its role in radiation treatment planning and restaging gynecologic malignancy.
