This article explains how magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is used to detect inflammation and cartilage damage in arthritis. The unique capabilities of MR imaging in early diagnosis of axial spondyloarthritis and cartilage degeneration are also discussed, along with new MR imaging techniques for clinical assessment and research in rheumatology.
