This presentation will cover basic MRI safety concepts as well as the consequences when safety measures are ignored in an MRI environment. We will also discuss how MRI professionals can control safety around MRI suites. Additionally, the concepts of the magnetic fringe field, characteristics of the magnetic field, implants, patient screening, and the biological effects MRI may have on patients will be covered. We will discuss accidents that have occurred and lessons learned from those accidents. We will evaluate who should be trained in MRI safety and what is done in the event of an emergency. Attendees will also be familiarized with the difference between quenching the magnet and an emergency stop or shut off.
