Radio-iodinated human serum albumin can be used for the determination of a patient’s plasma volume. Using concepts based on the dilution principle, this test is a quick, non-invasive procedure with relatively good accuracy. Upon determining the plasma volume, the patient’s total blood volume can also be determined. This presentation will discuss the theory, protocol, and calculations behind this non-imaging nuclear medicine exam.
