Patient education is a routine practice in radiology and radiation oncology departments, often provided by radiologic technologists and radiation therapists. However, routine assessment of patient education material is not common. Patient education materials may not reach health literacy standards, and patients may not get the information they need from these materials. This presentation addresses these gaps and provides tools to evaluate patient education materials and update the education process. One radiation oncology department’s experience evaluating and updating materials, as well as formalizing a patient education process, will be discussed.
