This quiz is the companion to the Directed Reading article “Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tongue,” which appears in the Radiation Therapist 2021 Spring journal.
The incidence of tongue carcinoma, which has been linked to tobacco use and the human papilloma virus, is increasing. This cancer primarily affects people younger than 50 years and often requires aggressive treatment with surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these. Adverse effects can include pain, dysphagia, and feeding tube dependence. This article reviews the risk factors for and etiology of squamous cell tongue carcinoma along with its diagnosis, staging, treatment, and prognosis.
