This quiz is the companion to the Directed Reading article “Rare Pediatric Cancers,” which appears in the Radiation Therapist 2021 Spring journal.
Cancer is rare in the pediatric population, nationally and globally. The lack of data on effective screenings and precise treatment protocols reflects the rarity of these diseases. Pediatric cancers require specific individualized approaches to treatment that consider the child’s genetic predispositions and other susceptibilities. These approaches change substantially based on tumor stage and other diagnostic findings. In addition, the risk of secondary malignancy is affected by genetic factors and treatment approaches. Challenges in treatment approaches and late effects from treatment pose a need for further research and improved standards of care for pediatric cancer patients.
