Kevin R. Clark, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(QM)
Providing quality care to every patient is a primary goal for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals; however, achieving that goal can be challenging during certain clinical situations. These situations might include encounters with patients who are angry, demanding, silent, or dying. Whether the behavior stems from mental distress, ill health, pain, substance abuse, or other causes, challenging patient encounters place both professional and personal demands on radiologic technologists and radiation therapists. This presentation shares strategies for these situations, supported by research, that lead to better patient care. In addition, stress management techniques are covered to help professionals cope with caring for patients in challenging situations.
