Invasive cardiac interventional procedures are performed to study the heart and circulatory system, and may also be used to treat cardiovascular disease. While these procedures are generally safe with low complication rates, there are some complications that can occur. These complications include iodinated contrast reactions, vascular injury, arrhythmia, and stroke. Ideally, these complications should be prevented entirely. However, if they do occur, it is important that staff are able to quickly recognize the emergency and respond. This presentation describes how to recognize these potential emergency scenarios and how to care for patients in these emergencies.
