Long bone MRIs includes those of the upper arm, the forearm, the thigh, and the lower leg. Pathologies of the long bones may involve the bone, muscles, ligaments, or tendons. Presentation could be specifically related to a known injury, but often involves vague symptoms such as pain, loss of function, stiffness, or a lump or mass. MRI of the affected area is common when conservative therapies are not effective, because it provides the most accurate information about the soft tissues involved in these pathologies. This presentation describes the basic elements of the MRI exam of the long bones.
