Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder of the exocrine glands that can cause life threatening symptoms. Although sweat chloride tests remain the standard for diagnosing CF in patients, computed tomography, positron emission tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, sonography, nuclear medicine, and angiography also can be used for diagnosis and to monitor CF. However, the preferred method for evaluating CF is chest radiography. Although there is no cure for patients with CF, advancements in treatments and diagnostic equipment have improved prognosis.
