Recent advances in MRI have improved spatial, contrast, and temporal resolutions, allowing abdominal and pelvic applications to become more common. MRI has moved from an adjunct modality to one of primary importance in the diagnostic workup of abdominal and pelvic symptoms and pathologies. MRI technologists must therefore have a firm grasp of anatomy, imaging strategies, and image evaluation and optimization skills to accomplish these exams. This presentation describes the basic elements of abdominal and pelvic MRI exams as they pertain to the role of the MR Technologist.
