MRI is a powerful tool for the diagnosis and follow-up of spinal injury and disease. MRI provides high-contrast and high-resolution images of the cord, nerve roots, and discs without the risks of ionizing radiation. As spinal symptoms remain one of the predominant areas for which patients seek medical attention, the need for MRI of this anatomic region is extremely high. As well-rounded MRI technologists, we must understand the basics of spine imaging in order to provide diagnostic exams for our radiologists and patients.
