Although computed tomography (CT) is not often the primary modality for investigating musculoskeletal disorders, it still has an important role to play. CT is usually considered only as an alternative to MRI, but there are many cases where CT is a preferred imaging option. This presentation briefly reviews the basics of CT physics, positioning and the technical factors involved in evaluating pathologies of the lower extremities.
